ANOTHER DICKIN MEDAL SURFACES!

Winkie, the carrier pigeon was on an RAF Beaufort Bomber when it crashed in the North Sea on 23rd February 1942. She was set free and flew 120 miles home to Broughty Ferry, sparking a desperate search and rescue mission. The Bomber crew owed their lives to Winkie’s heroic flight.

She is really popular and has been on display recently at the Imperial War Museum and Edinburgh Zoo and is currently on display in The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum.
