The FCI European Championships and the World Championships for 2022 will be held in Mira, Portugal, organised by the Portuguese Racing Pigeon Federation. They are inviting teams of thirty youngsters from participating countries to enter each race. Pigeons can only be entered in one championship, therefore entries for the European Championships will not be eligible for the World Championships and vice versa. The final race for both events will be held on the 24th September from a distance of 250 miles. Pigeons must be rung with a 2022 life ring bearing the FCI logo, so only GB and NEHU rings will be eligible.
The RPRA will be making arrangements to have the pigeons delivered to the loft in two batches, one at the beginning of April and another at the beginning of May (exact dates to be confirmed with the organisers around the middle of March). Pigeons must be between 40 and 60 days old at this time. They must have been vaccinated at 21 days old, so that they can be re-vaccinated on arrival at the loft. Cost of delivery to the organisers is to be met by the participant. Entry is subject to a £30 fee towards the cost of shipment and there is also a fee of 30 euros per pigeon payable to the Portuguese Federation. This makes the total cost to enter £55 per pigeon. This is payable on delivery of the bird to the organisers.
A prize fund will be established using 45% of the total revenue from entries and this will be awarded as follows:
20% for individual rankings – 50% for first, 30% for second and 20% for third places;
20% for country rankings – 50% for first, 30% for second and 20% for third places;
5% for the ace pigeon (fancier).
Along with the pigeon, participants must also provide a full pedigree for each bird, a digital JPG photograph of themselves for inclusion on the FPC website and a mobile telephone number plus email address for updates on the progress of the birds.
Any pigeon owner who does not provide a pedigree will forfeit 50% of any prizes won and will not be entitled to any reimbursement should their pigeons be sold at auction.
