French Low Emission Zones

The following information is up to date as at 8th February 2021. Please visit the website within the information below for updates.

Low Emission Zones (LEZs) are areas where the most polluting vehicles are regulated. Usually this means that vehicles with higher emissions cannot enter the area. In some low emission zones the more polluting vehicles have to pay more if they enter the low emission zone.

Before you travel into a low emission zone, you first need to find out if your vehicle is affected:
 – Most low emission zones affect buses and coaches
 – Most low emission zones affect heavy duty goods vehicles (usually over 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW))
 – Some LEZs also affect
    • vans, minibuses, camper vans
    • cars and
    • motorcycles

The following website will provide more information and we would encourage all organisations liberating in France to make themselves familiar with these restrictions and requirements:

As a guide the following list of confirmed and proposed LEZ’s and their location to French liberation sites has been provided below:

Confirmed French LEZ for 2021

Aix-Marseille-Provence – in the south east, and very far from any lib sites.

Greater Paris – There are no liberation sites within Greater Paris, although this could be an issue if any convoyers choose to drive through that region on the way to, say, Troyes which is about 130km south east of Paris.

Grenoble – further east than any of our liberation sites, and a good 200km from any of them.

Lyon – further east than any of our liberation sites, and a good 200km from any of them.

Paris – No liberation sites in Paris.

Rouen-Normandie in northern France. The nearest lib site is Canappeville, about 40km south. The Rouen Metropolis will gradually implement a ZFE (Zones à faibles émissions – low emission zone). The area affected by the ZFE will be enlarged and more vehicle categories will be affected over time. From July 2021 the zone will cover the inner city boulevards, left bank and right bank of Rouen and it will only affect commercial vehicles.

Strasbourg – in the extreme east, and very far from any of our liberation sites.

Toulouse – nearest lib site is Tarbes, but this is about 120km south west of Toulouse.

Other Proposed but not confirmed French LEZ’s

Nice Côte d’Azur is also in the far south east, and very far from any lib sites.

Toulon-Provence-Méditerranée is again in the extreme south east, and very far from any lib sites.

Montpellier Méditerranée is in the extreme south of France, and very far from any lib sites.
