Animals in War Remembrance 2024

RPRA President, Les Blacklock and his wife Meryl represented the Association at the annual gathering at the Animals in War Memorial on Park Lane, London, on Friday 8th November, at which Angela Rippon was the guest of honour. The turnout was excellent, with horses from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in attendance, and over 30 wreaths were laid at the memorial by animal charities, groups and associations.

After the minute’s silence, several speakers were invited to address the gathering – they spoke about the effect of war on animals, and many of the speeches were very moving.

At the conclusion of the service Mike Armitage from Pigeons in War, assisted by Angela Rippon, liberated two white pigeons.

On a personal note, Les and Meryl were proud to attend the gathering on behalf of the RPRA, and would like to thank Pet Plan Charitable Trust for organising the event.
