Copeland Memory Matters and Later Life Group (NHS) decided, along with Age UK, to hold a pigeon race to support Dementia Action Week 2023. This was the sixth such race in the last seven years.
A good turn out of service users, carers, staff and social workers gathered on the harbour at Whitehaven, at lunchtime, to liberate the pigeons. The pigeons were provided by Blacklock & Sons and liberated by Les Blacklock, assisted by Dave, a service user and current pigeon fancier.
A good afternoon was had by all. First and second in the race were Henry and Betty, and Sheila won the RPRA Cap. The prizes were sponsored by the RPRA and the Cumbria Region, along with private donations.
Many thanks to Sheena (NHS) and R&R Day Centre (based at Kells) for organizing and supporting the event.
