Pigeon Race for Dementia Action Week

The annual pigeon race for Dementia Action Week took place on a lovely spring day, organised by the Memory Matters Service (NHS) in conjunction with the Cumbria Region RPRA. There was an excellent turn out of service users, carers and support organisations, NHS Wellness Service, Memory Matters team and Age UK.

The pigeons were racing from Whitehaven Harbour to their home loft at Northside Workington. A free sweepstake was run by the Memory Matters team, and prizes of biscuits and chocolates were provided by the Cumbria Region RPRA.

Many photos were taken of service users and the pigeons. As well as the pigeon race the Age UK bus was very busy giving advice to individuals especially those experiencing financial hardship.

RPRA Cumbria Region Secretary, Les Blacklock, would like to thank his former workmate Sheena for pulling the event together.
